Effective Marketing?
I was reading the paper today and saw an interesting article about a band called this band is a pipe bomb. Now it's an unusual name for a band which can sometimes be very effective (like Death Cab for Cutie) when it comes to marketing. However in this case someone put the band's sticker on their bike! A police officer called the bomb squad only to find out it was the name of a punk rock band, not a notice that an actual pipe bomb was inside the bike! The bike's owner was charged with inducing a panic.
My first reaction to the story was, how stupid can you be? Then after thinking about it further I realized it's actually brilliant marketing. Because of a dumb guy, I mean c'mon on who would put that sticker on their bike!, this band got national attention. Hmm, makes you think.
So today, think outside the box. Find ways to market yourself that no one else is doing. But don't call your band this bike is a pipe bomb and put the sticker on a bike!
