Do you need a record deal?

I spent the last several days with Daylle Deanna Schwartz, author of I Don't Need A Record Deal! She lectured on how artists can take charge of their own music career. They don't need to rely on a record deal, especially a bad one. They can empower themselves and make money in music.

Here are a few important points that were covered:

*Always remember you are a product because this is a business.
*Do a marketing plan. Read books on this subject.
*Create loyal fans.
*Always have an entertainment attorney review ALL contracts.
*Be driven to succeed.
*Believe in yourself.
*Have patience.
*Have a GREAT demo.

I highly suggest getting her book, I Don't Need A Record Deal!, as soon as possible. You will gain some valuable insight.

Something to think about today...

"When you know clearly what you want, you'll wake up every morning excited about life." -- Mark Victor Hansen

Do you wake up every morning excited about life? I do. It's because I love what I do! I talk to so many people who are not happy with their life. They feel stuck. They feel lost. They just want to move along and be happy. Well there is only one person who can do anything about your happiness and that is you.

Smile. It's one thing you can do right now that will make you feel good.

If you are unhappy with something in your life, do something about it. Stop saying "I can't".

"I can" find happiness and peace in my life.
"I can" sell more CDs.
"I can" write more songs.
"I can".

Are you using myspace.com?

Okay I have to say I'm a big fan of myspace.com. Why? Because it's a super easy way to reach new fans with your music. I've heard success stories of bands increasing their fan base, selling more CDs and getting new people out to their shows just by spending time at myspace.

Go to www.myspace.com and check it out. Click on "music" and have fun. If you don't have a page, click on the "artist signup" page.
